Photographer's Biography

About The Photographer: Growing up on Long Island, New York, Scott Schwartz was introduced to photography by his father, who was fully immersed in the art form as an advanced hobbyist and sometime professional photographer.

Eager to explore the medium on his own, Scott bought a used 35mm camera outfit from a friend's father in 1986. After taking several photography courses at Dowling College, Scott spent as much free time as he could, photographing landscapes and honing his craft.

In May of 1988, Scott visited Los Angeles, CA with his father. Ever the photographers, father and son explored the Mojave Desert, an intriguing, yet forbidding place.

Whatever ambivalence Scott felt about leaving New York was cast aside, as he became fascinated with the Mojave Desert, with its rugged beauty and its dramatic history. Scott moved to California in July of 1989.

Once settled in his new home, Scott made regular treks to the desert, loading his little Dodge Daytona with food, water, and of course, his camera gear.

By the late 1990's, after a stint as a wedding photographer, Scott decided that he would rather devote his photographic time and skills to his love: the California Desert. Buying a four wheel drive vehicle, Scott began exploring the desert back country, concentrating mainly on the El Paso Mountain range, which is located some 30 miles South of the China Lake Naval Weapons Station. Scott has come to know the El Paso's almost better than he knows the city he lives in. The El Paso Mountains have a rich history; the area was heavily mined for nearly 100 years, and offers campers, hikers, and photographers stunning scenic views.

Currently living in the San Bernardino area with his wife of three years, Sharon, Scott continues to pursue photography. His desert photographs and articles have appeared in the Desert USA on line magazine, and his work will be appearing in an upcoming issue of a magazine dedicated to off-road subjects.

Scott is also an aviation historian and licensed pilot; as such, his photographs and articles have appeared in Pacific Flyer, Aviation History, In Flight USA, and Flight Journal magazines. He plans to add aviation-related photographs to this site in the future.

It is Scott's hope that visitor's to this site will be inspired to take time out of their busy lives to get to know the hidden world that surrounds them as they hustle along life's highway.
